It was very cold this morning, with the wind chill making it feel like only 2 °C. I was cold with my hat, gloves and thick coat on so I have no idea how these 7 lads braved the cold.

“We did it” Greece
It’s 8:30 on a Sunday morning, but the residents of Molyvos are up and ready for action. It’s “Lets do it Greece” day and along with thousands of other villages around Greece, we are all ready for a good spring clean of the village. Split into groups, armed with tools and our high visibility vests, we head off to cut down overgrown vegetation and collect rubbish.
The forecast had promised sunshine through high cloud. Someone forgot the high cloud and the day turned very sunny and hot. The day was most productive as many areas of the village were cleared.
I really do wish that I had taken a ‘before’ photograph to show you the difference. However, I didn’t so you will just have to use your imagination.
This very pretty ‘street’ on the left was lined by weeds that grew to 1 metre high in places. Once we had strimmed, cut and pulled there was only one thing left to do! Two worn out brooms and four worn out sweepers later and we have transformed it into the vision of beauty you now see.
As a reward for our hard work we are allowed to retire to the forest area for a well deserved drink and a souvlaki lunch.
We have enjoyed ourselves so much that we are doing it again! So if you are in the Molyvos area on Wednesday morning at 8:00 am….come and meet us at the school to join the fun!!!
Molyvos Landslide
25 March 2014 – After heavy overnight rain, there was a small landslide in Molyvos onto the main road to the harbour. As the road was deserted, nobody was hurt and no vehicles damaged. You might well look at the pictures and wonder “small landslide”? Well, the pictures show the results of a rather big digger pulling down further soil and rocks that the engineer had decided was unsafe. Approx 8-10 tonnes of rock was brought down with the heaviest single piece being in the region of 2 tonnes, I am pretty glad that did not land on my foot or my car! If you are wondering where exactly the landslide was, the wooden building on the left in the picture above is the “Blue Fox”. Thursday 27 March – work continues to clear the road and make safe the land above the road. The only road to the harbour is the road through the centre of the village. This is mostly only one car wide, so you might imagine the problems that this is causing.
If you have any pictures of the Molyvos landslide that we can add to this page, please email them to us.
The Swallows have returned to Molyvos
The swallows are back early this year. It was wonderful to see them performing acrobatics over Molyvos last night.
Summer is almost here!
