When you think of Lesvos, gastronomy might not be the first thing that jumps into your mind. Well, perhaps it should be!
In reality, Lesvos is renowned the world over for the gastronomy born of its local ingredients, tradition, culture and geography.
I’m going to start the list with a few of my personal favourites:
- Local Cheeses
- Sardines from Kalloni
- Stuffed courgette flowers
- Fava (green split pea purée)
- Award-winning olive oil
I am sure there are many more that I should add to the list.
Lesvos sits at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. Lesvos gastronomy is born of the meeting of these two gastronomic cultures. 11 million olive trees provide the beautiful olive oil. The azure Aegean provides bountiful seafood The mountains provide lamb, goat and herbs. The plains provide fruit and vegetables. With such a varied shopping basket, how could Lesvos gastronomy be anything other than amazing?
