Panagia Glykofiloussa

Petra, Panagia GlykofiloussaThe village of Petra (rock in Greek) takes its name from the 40m high rock or meteoron (suspended rock) which sits in the middle of the town. There are 114 steps to climb to the church of Panagia Glykofiloussa (Our Lady of the Sweet Kiss) which sits on top of the rock overlooking the village. Local legend tells that if you make a wish on the first step and remain silent all the way to the top, your wish will come true.

It is worth climbing to steps just to see the beautiful views over Petra and the surrounding countryside.
