Top 5 Things to see in Beautiful Lesvos

Lesvos is an island full of wonder in the Northern Aegean, it is the third-largest Island in Greece. It has beautiful beaches, forested mountains and fishing villages that are unimaginably romantic. It is one of those destinations that need to be on your bucket list. The beauty of Lesvos is so enchanting that you will want to come back again and again.

Every visitor has their personal favourites and I am no exception. Here is my list of places you must see in Lesvos:

Molyvos
This town is a quiet place near the sea. The Byzantine castle is a romantic spot which is quite popular especially during sunset. This small town can be explored in a day on foot. The castle hosts cultural events during summer.

Mytilene
Mytilene is the capital city of Lesvos. Mytilene has the beautiful architecture of different styles, like neoclassic, belle époque and renaissance. This city is famous for its narrow streets, and Archaeology Museum. While you are in Mytilene, you should also visit the antique theatre, antique shops, traditional Cafes, and food market. Ouzo, an anise-flavoured drink is quite famous in this island, ensure you buy some when you visit.

Eftalou
Eftalou is famous for its hot springs. This ancient hot spring can heal health conditions like high blood pressure, sciatica and arthritis. Located close to Molyvos, visitors can enjoy the quiet and beautiful surroundings as well as take a dip in the hot spring. It has an entrance fee of 4 euros.

Panagia Glykofilousa in Petra
Churches and monasteries are quite famous in Lesvos. There is a 40-meter rock which people climb to see the image of Mother Mary. This miraculous image of Mother Mary is visited by hundreds of devotees. The view from the church is quite spectacular.

Skala Eresou
The beach is immensely beautiful, and it’s one of the cleanest of all the beaches in the Mediterranean. It is surrounded by volcanic rocks and looks like an amphitheatre. It is a serene beach where you can simply relax and enjoy life.

The beautiful Lesvos is a true getaway. There is so much to see in this beautiful Island, and you can’t just get enough of this place. The Petrified Forest of Lesvos is awe-inspiring.  The famous Parasol bar is situated on a Skala Eresou beach. It plays Latin music and is known for its Mojitos.

There is such a long list of things to see and do that didn’t make it into my top 5.

Agiasos is a beautiful picturesque village known for its clean streets and music. It has historic buildings, cobblestone alleys, and antique cafes.

The Women’s Cooperative in Petra known for traditional Greek cuisines. It is one of the popular restaurants in a beautiful location, and you can enjoy a fantastic home-made meal. The food cooked here is made from local, fresh ingredients.

The island is famous for 270 species of birds. It’s a bird watchers paradise. Carry a good pair of binoculars to this place and enjoy bird watching and also the beautiful island from the hilltop. There are many excellent binoculars you can get for under 500. The binoculars will give you an enhanced view of this picturesque Island.

You can take a boat ride from Mytilene to Ayvalik. It’s a one and a half hour journey. You can visit the large Turkish market in Ayvalik. The Athanasius church is located in the capital city. Built in 1917, it’s one of the oldest church and they have maintained its historic charisma.
