About Robin

We started visiting Lesvos such a long time ago we can't remember when. We simply fell in love with the island in general and Molyvos in particular. In 2005 we bought some land and tried to manage the building of our house from the UK. Holidays became site visits and our house was [mostly] completed in 2007. In 2009 we sold up in the UK and moved to Molyvos. This is now our home and we count ourselves amongst the luckiest of the lucky. I am a member of the Molyvos Tourist Association, providing photographs for their brochures and general publicity. Most of my time is spent on activities to encourage tourism or taking photographs of one of the most beautiful places on earth. I also produce calendars and sell them on-line through Lesvos Calendars. Please visit and have a look. You can also see more of my photographs on my  Robin Sanders Photography website.

Heat wave and beautiful light

If you are about to visit Lesvos, you really should know that this is one hot destination.

Literally that is. We have ‘enjoyed’ temperatures 5° C to 7º C above the average for the past 5 weeks.

While you enjoy your holiday, spare a thought for the local workers who have to cook, clean and look after you. It’s hot outside but even hotter in the kitchen.

Our favourite time is sunrise. It’s cooler and everywhere is quiet and bathed in the most glorious light. It reminds me of one of the many reasons we came to live here. Photographers of the world take note – if you have not visited Lesvos, you are missing the most amazing and inspiring light on earth.

Did the earth move for you?

Yes the earth really did move in Molyvos last night.

It only lasted a second but it was just 10.6 km from our house. It is also the first earthquake that we have felt since moving here 3 years ago.

Molyvos welcomes the Olympic Torch

The 2012 Olympic TorchIt’s not every day that the Olympic Torch arrives in town. With the opening of the 2012 London games less than a week away, Thomas, one of the Olympic Torch bearers came to visit us at a concert at Molyvos Castle.

Thomas was presented with an olive ‘victors crown’ and some reminders of Molyvos by Apostolia Lykou.

Afterwards the audience were entertained by Pantelis Lykos and his band .

Thank you Thomas and Pantelis, it was a great evening.

Temple of Messon

On Monday we went to visit the ‘Mesa Sanctuary’. When we got there we were greated by

Mesa Sanctuary Opening times

CLOSED MONDAYS ! ! ! A number of ‘bad’ words came to mind.

As we stood at the gate reading the sign, a man appeared. He opened the gate and with a gentle wave and an “Ella” he invited us in.

Temple of Messon   Temple of Messon or Mesa Sanctuary, Lesvos

Why is this beautiful, tranquil corner of Lesvos not advertised more? They have recently finished building a museum area and planted the grounds. We walked through the site to the wonderful sound of bird song.

If you are visiting Lesvos, you should not miss visiting the Mesa Sanctuary.

As we left, we passed our host. I pointed at the opening hours and smiled, hoping that he would understand my ‘question’. “I thought that people might come” he said.

“ευχαριστώ πολύ”

IMPORTANT NOTE
The site is now open on Modays and closed on Tuesdays. There is a €3 entrance fee.
